DVSI's AMBE+2™ Vocoder is Selected
for the ETSI DMR Radio Standard

Westford, Mass. - Digital Voice Systems Inc. (DVSI) announces today that its AMBE+2™ speech vocoder has been selected by the DMR-MOU group as the primary vocoder for the ETSI digital mobile radio (DMR) Standard. The patented AMBE+2™ vocoder incorporates DVSI's most advanced technology to achieve unmatched voice quality, with robustness to background noise and channel bit errors (see charts below). The low-bit-rate (3600 bps) vocoder is employed in wireless communication devices around the world and has been proven to be a true value by providing a 2-3x improvement in channel capacity while maintaining the high performance level critical to the digital mobile radio environment.

DMR is a new digital radio standard developed by ETSI to promote efficient use of radio frequency spectrum in a new generation of digital Private Mobile Radio (PMR) systems in Europe. DMR is specifically targeted at small to medium sized PMR systems in all areas where analog PMR is currently applied today. By choosing DVSI's AMBE+2™ vocoder, DMR acquires the benefits of DVSI's high performance AMBE+2™ vocoder while providing voice interoperability between equipment.

DVSI has a range of product offerings to support the use of its AMBE+2™ Vocoder. DVSI has a variety of optimized software libraries available for many DSP and other processors, including the TI C55x and C54x. DVSI is also offering the VC-55™-DMR vocoder board that integrates the AMBE+2™ vocoder and is capable of processing from one to four simultaneous channels. The VC-55™-DMR vocoder board is ideal for DMR manufacturers who need to minimize the time and up-front engineering expenses associated with new digital mobile radio product development.
