PC-2000TM Vocoder Board

Introduction

The PC-2000TM Vocoder Board is an evaluation board for the proprietary AMBEŽ Voice Compression Software created Digital Voice Systems, Inc. (DVSI). The algorithm is implemented through the AMBE-2000TM Vocoder Chip which includes a number of advanced features such as an automatic Voice/Silence detection (VAD), adaptive comfort noise generation, DTMF detection and generation, echo cancellation and low power modes.

Description

The PC-2000TM Vocoder Board is designed for fast and easy installation into a PC ISA slot. It comes with software to record (encode) real-time speech and playback (decode) stored voice files.

The PC-2000TM Vocoder Board can encode real-time analog input through its handset input or process a stored 16-bit-linear PCM file sampled at 8 kHz. The analog input signal is digitized by the on board A/D. The AMBE-2000TM Vocoder Chip encoder converts it into a data bit stream between 2.0 and 9.6 kbps (based on the users defined setting). The resulting bit stream is stored as a file.

Conversely, the PC-2000TM Vocoder Board can decode the encoded file and store the data as a linear PCM file on the hard drive while outputting the uncompressed speech with the on board D/A to the handset. The encoder and decoder are fully asynchronous.

PC-2000TM Features

Vocoder Board Analog I/O

The PC-2000TM Vocoder Board simplifies evaluation of the AMBE-2000TM Vocoder Chip and AMBEŽ technology. With its industry standard connections, it can be installed and processing files within minutes.

The user simply plugs in through a RJH type telephone handset jack for voice recording and listening to playback. The RJ-11 telephone jack works with a regular telephone handset.
